Captain JP Granath

Vero Beach Fishing Captain & Treasure Coast Fishing Guide

Captain JP Granath was born and raised in Vero Beach, Florida, where his love for the ocean and fishing began at an early age. Growing up just steps from the beach, JP spent much of his childhood on the water surfing, boating, spearfishing, diving, and fishing.

Today, JP is an experienced fishing captain with Down Sea Charters, sharing his knowledge of the waters he has spent more than two decades exploring. With 22 years of experience on Florida's Treasure Coast, JP has developed an in-depth understanding of the local fisheries, reefs, inlets, and seasonal fish patterns.

A Lifetime on the Water

Fishing has been part of JP's life for as long as he can remember. His father and grandfather introduced him to different styles of fishing and taught him the importance of understanding the water, reading conditions, and learning the habits of different species.

Those early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for fishing. As he grew older, JP became dedicated to learning everything he could about the local fishery—from fish migration patterns and seasonal movements to weather, tides, water conditions, and changing fishing patterns.

Growing up around Vero Beach gave JP the opportunity to explore the waters between Sebastian Inlet and Fort Pierce Inlet, learning the area's reefs, beaches, inshore waters, and offshore fisheries firsthand.

That local experience is something JP brings with him every time he leaves the dock with a group of anglers.

Fishing the Vero Beach & Treasure Coast Waters

The Treasure Coast of Florida offers an incredible variety of fishing opportunities, and JP enjoys taking advantage of everything these waters have to offer.

Depending on the season, weather, and conditions, fishing trips with Down Sea Charters can target species such as snook, tarpon, redfish, spotted seatrout, pompano, snapper, grouper, cobia, kingfish, mahi-mahi, sailfish, and other popular Florida game fish.

JP's experience extends from the shallow waters of the Indian River Lagoon to the Atlantic waters along the Treasure Coast. Whether you're looking for an inshore fishing adventure, a nearshore trip, or an offshore fishing experience, his local knowledge helps make every trip an exciting day on the water.

For anglers visiting the area, JP is also able to provide a local perspective on the different fisheries around Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fort Pierce, and the surrounding Treasure Coast.

More Than Just a Fishing Guide

One of the things that makes JP such a great captain is his personality. He's a social person who enjoys meeting new people and making sure everyone aboard has a great time.

Whether you're an experienced angler who already knows exactly what you're looking for or someone booking your first Florida fishing charter, JP enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping guests learn along the way.

For him, a successful trip isn't just about catching fish. It's about enjoying the boat ride, learning something new, spending time with family and friends, and creating memories that you'll still be talking about after you leave the dock.

And, of course, there's nothing quite like the excitement of putting a guest on the fish of a lifetime.

A Captain Who Knows the Local Fishery

JP's familiarity with the Treasure Coast comes from years of actually being on the water. He's spent countless hours exploring the local coastline, studying the area's fisheries, and learning how conditions can change throughout the year.

That experience is particularly valuable in Florida, where tides, water temperature, weather, bait movement, and seasonal migrations can all influence where fish will be found.

JP continues to enjoy learning and adapting to the fishery every time he gets on the water. His goal is to give every guest the best possible opportunity to catch fish while enjoying a safe, fun, and memorable day aboard Down Sea Charters.

Serving Vero Beach, Sebastian & Fort Pierce

From Vero Beach and the Indian River Lagoon to Sebastian Inlet, Fort Pierce, and the nearshore Atlantic, JP enjoys fishing the diverse waters of Florida's Treasure Coast.

Whether you're planning a family fishing trip, a day on the water with friends, or an adventure with an experienced angler, Captain JP is ready to show you what makes the Treasure Coast such a special fishing destination.

When He's Not Fishing

When JP isn't on the water with Down Sea Charters, he serves his local community with the Indian River County Fire Department. His commitment to serving the community he grew up in is another reflection of his connection to the Vero Beach area.

For JP, the Treasure Coast isn't simply a place where he fishes—it's home.
